Denying self and Daily Follow Jesus. Take up your cross daily and follow Jesus.

Revd Mntambo :  AEC President

Word from the President

Greetings to you by God’s grace alone!

It is said that distance or absence can make the heart grow fonder! Remember the prodigal son? Remember when your relative or friend moved to another city. Let alone the persisting Covid-19 and restrictions in travel that we have been through. The feeling should be that longing to see one another. But we are in 2022 now. It is another year with its challenges and blessings. We give glory to God for the life and opportunity He has given us to do more.

2022 is our 60th year since we got autonomy from South Africa General Mission on the 8th of July 1962. Do diarize that date so that you may tell other coming generations about God’s faithfulness to His church. Some of you remember 2012 when we celebrated our 50th Anniversary or Jubilee at the University of Zululand. Thirty-seven of our leaders were privileged to visit Israel during that year (see gallery section).

Our theme for the year is “Denying self and daily follow Jesus.” The theme is derived from Jesus’ words in Luke 9:23 where He said: “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.” (NKJV).

Africa Evangelical Church membership and other Christians at large are reminded about our commitment, our discipleship, our denial of self interest and plans and taking up our individual crosses and follow Jesus. There is an increasing number of Christians who need revival from time to time. Some crave for revival because their first love grew cold on the way. Some derail, and fully think of themselves.

The world is making louder noise about self-esteem, self-image, self-positioning, money, fame, recognition, positions, possessions, the list goes on. Think of the one who follows Jesus, do you think the disciples had time to think of themselves while following Jesus daily. Many are like Peter of old who said “I go fishing” when Jesus was not in view, earlier he sunk while walking on water toward Jesus because his eyes looked somewhere else.

We pray that 2022 might be the year of fully commitment and desiring to know the one we follow better. Our commitment to faithfully giving to the ministry as apart from Conference Centres, some of us have building projects in our local churches, we have our missionary mandate and many other financial obligations. We have made it simpler for you to give to AEC by using PayFast application on our website which is secure and fast. Try it and you will be amazed.

Africa Evangelical Church is happy to be a member of the global community. We hope that this website will bring encouragement as you pray for the church. We pray that this will not be a place of fake news, negative expressions, undermining etc as it is being developed slowly. This should be a place of meditating and thanking God for life of endurance that God has given the Africa Evangelical Church. To upgrade is an expensive activity. More so demanding to do it regularly as you daily follow Jesus with your cross. Life will be daily challenging and demanding our faithful commitment and discipline as we daily press on.

When the road seems hazy, let us fix our eyes on the one we are following. 2022 is daily unfolding with many new challenges. The comfort we have is that we are not alone.
We thank you all for your prayers, support, encouragement, and innovations.
God bless us all as we daily take up our crosses and follow Jesus.

Marijohn Wilkin and Kris Kristofferson wrote: “One day at a time, sweet Jesus” song which reminds us of the truth about following Jesus.

 I'm only human, I'm just a woman
Help me believe in what I could be and all that I am
Show me the stairway I have to climb
Lord, for my sake teach me to take one day at a time

One day at a time, sweet Jesus
That's all I'm asking from You
Just give me the strength to do everyday
What I have to do
